About Library

Sagar is situated in the heart of Malnad area. To provide higher education to the students of this region, the College was started in 1964 by philanthropists of the region, led by eminent persons like Late K.G. Wodeyar, Late Sri K.V. Subbanna and Sri K.H. Srinivasa.

The foundation stone of the College was laid by Lal Bahadur Shastry, the then prime Minister of India. Sri M. Gopalakrishna Adiga, the great Kannada poet, was the founder Principal. The College is affiliated to Kuvempu University and located in a spacious campus of about 45 acres, 3km away from the town. Besides classrooms and well-established laboratories, the library is housed in a separate 4- stored building.

Any library for the matter is the heart of an Educational Institution. Our library was established in the year 1964. We are proud to have our own building. Our library is named after Sri Upendra Srinivasa Nayak one of the renowned philanthropist. He has generously donated; hence the library is named after him.

Initially the book was generously donated by the members of the management, Teaching staff and non teaching communities, students and general public. This constitutes the major chunk of our collections in the library.

We have 60052 volumes of books. It covers all the disciplines and branches including computer science. We are subscribing 13 news papers, 74 journals, magazines and periodicals. It covers Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Computer science, General knowledge, Competitive Examinations etc.

The development of the College library is a never ending process. Therefore, they are introducing automation in library, now they are using E-Lib Library automation software for book issue, return, renew process. Library is well placed it is having separate building and well equipped with sufficient number of lighting and hygienic well ventilated natural light and fresh air in abundance. The separate Reference section to students for read. The reading tables and chairs and systematically arranged to accumulate 100 students at time. Library Department consist the following Staff- one librarian with Two Library assistants.

Our library has three important sections:

  • Reference & Reading room on the Ground floor
  • First Floor Commerce & Science issue section.
  • Second floor Kannada, English and Social Science books issuing section

Arrangements of books:

Books are classified broadly according to Dewey Decimal Classification System with little modification so as to suit the all UG and PG syllabus books on different subjects are neatly placed in open stack room. Further, the arrangement of shelves is according to the array of subjects as appear in the syllabus. The books on Kannada and English are kept separately.

Open access system:

The special feature of the library is its OPEN ACCESS SYSTEM, where books are brought very close to the readers with the result staff are students will be having easy accessibility to find their choice of books on the shelves without any interference. Though open access will necessitate greater care and responsibility on the part of the library staff this system is opted to library the reading habits of the students and restore their live for books.

E-Lib library software:

E-Lib is a multi user package designed and developed by a team of library Professionals and software professionals for effective management of a library from all aspects. This package has been designed to handle huge volumes at lightning speed thus saving manpower. E-Lib is a Windows / Web based software and it runs in any Windows environment and hence it has excellent Graphical User Interface. A library is completely computerized only if the user, irrespective of background or knowledge, is able to access information available in the library from anywhere just by typing few words.
